Types Of Assisted Living Arrangements
1/1
In general, the types of assisted living facilities are:
Assisted living in independent apartments
Residents live in individual apartments. Services generally include housekeeping, meals, transportation for shopping and medical treatment and social activities.
For people who can do most activities themselves.
Assisted living with dependent care
Housing is with other residents in buildings which can range from small homes to large facilities.
There are more services than in independent apartments. For example:
- Meals
- Help dressing and bathing
- Help with medications
Assisted living with specialized care
For individuals with specific diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease.
These facilities provide all services of a dependent care facility plus care required by specific diseases.
Skilled nursing care
Skilled nursing care can be provided in any of the above facilities. It is usually only provided on a short term basis. For example, while a patient is recovering from surgery. If long term skilled care is required, a nursing home is the proper venue.
