A life coach helps clients determine and achieve personal goals. Life coaches use a variety of methods aimed at helping clients process setting and reaching goals.
Coaching is not targeted at psychological illness. Coaches are not therapists. Life coaches are not licensed or regulated by any state. Extra care is required when considering which life coach to use. When considering a life coach, ask about:
- The person's education, including schools attended.
- The person's business experience.
- The training the person has to be a life coach.
- Certifications and awards, if any.
- How long the person has been acting as a life coach
- How successful the person has been.
- Contact information for at least two recent clients who can provide a recommendation. Once you have the information, contact those people to find out what the coach did, the person's feeling about the coach, and whether the coaching was successful.
