How To Clean Injecting Drug Works

The objective is to clean both the needle and syringe of any possible HIV virus and other contaminants. It is also important to remove the cleaning agent before resuse since it can be harmful if injected into the body.
Standard practice for cleaning injecting drug works is:
Step 1. Fill a syringe completely with clean water.Step 2. Shake the syringe vigorously to rinse the inside. (Tap the sides if you continue to see residue).
Step 3. Push all the way down on the syringe to empty it.
Step 4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 at least two more times.
Step 5. Pour bleach into a clean glass or glass jar. Fill the syringe completely with bleach. Let the needle stay in the bleach for at least 30 seconds. Empty the syringe completely and safely (for instance, into a drain).
Step 6. Repeat step 5 two more times.
Step 7. To be sure there is no bleach remaining in the syringe, fill it completely with clean water. Repeat steps 1 through 3 a total of three times.
Step 8. Before use, look at the syringe and needle carefully to be sure there is no residue of blood or other contaminant.
