Tumor Marker Blood Test (CEA)
How The CEA Test Is Performed
« Previous2/2
Like any normal blood test, the CEA test is performed as follows:
- An elastic band is wrapped around your upper arm to stop the flow of blood and to make the veins below the band larger. Larger veins make it easier to put in the needle.
- The site to be injected is cleaned with alcohol to disinfect it.
- A needle is inserted into a vein.
- The needle is attached to a tube, which is then filled with blood.
- When enough blood is collected, the tube is removed. A cotton pad or gause pad is then put over the needle as it is removed.
- Pressure is put on the site to stop bleeding.
- The site is then covered with a bandage.
