Medical ID

Medical i.d. speaks for you during an emergency when you are unable to communicate.

First responders are trained to look for medical i.d. - particularly a bracelet or necklace or in your mobile phone.

  • A variety of medical i.d.'s are available online. For instance, the nonprofit, Medic Alert Foundation (a non-profit organization) sells a variety of bracelets and necklaces. offsite link. MedicAlert also has a plan allowing you to store your medical documents so they will be available to emergency responders.

  • Apple's Medical ID turns any iPhone 4s or newer into a mobile medical alert bracelet.  To access, tap on your phone's Health app icon. It is a white square with a red heart.  Responders can access the information even if the phone is locked if you activate "Show when locked."
