There is no statutory limit on how long you can receive Social Security disability benefits.

As long as you remain disabled, you can receive Social Security disability benefits until you reach Full Retirement Age. When you reach Full Retirement Age, your disability benefits automatically convert to retirement benefits. The amount of the benefit remains the same.

Until you reach Full Retirement Age, your case will be reviewed at regular intervals to make sure you are still disabled. The notice of award tells you when to expect the first review, and lets you know you will be notified before the review is started.  To learn more, see: Continuing Disability Reviews 101.

You are responsible for reporting if your medical condition improves, if there is any change in your ability to work or if you return to work.
