Check to see if you can get insurance coverage you don’t have that would come in handy if there were a recurrence or another cancer appears. For instance, health insurance, disability insurance, long term care insurance and/or life insurance.  If you cannot get coverage as an individual, check to see if you get insurance through a professional association, an association of self employed people, the school you attended, or your local Chamber of Commerce.

Planning: If you haven't before, start to think about how to continue your business if you become unable to continue to work or even if you die. As part of your planning:

  • Consider writing a Business Ethical Will to pass on the principles on which you founded or ran the business.
  • Think about how to continue the business in the event you get sick, or in case of a disaster which either affects your own business or your supplier(s) and/or customers

A planning day with your advisors may be helpful to consider business continuation and other subjects to think about triggered by your diagnosis.
