Children, step children and even certain grandchildren can become eligible to receive money from Social Security as children of a worker or on their own if the child is disabled.
Social Security pays children's benefits to the natural, adopted or step child of a retired, disabled or deceased worker under Social Security Retirement (SSR), Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Survivor's Benefits.
