Children's Benefits Under Social Security
Children, step children and even certain grandchildren can become eligible to receive money from Social Security as children of a worker or on their own if the child is disabled.
Social Security pays children's benefits to the natural, adopted or step child of a retired, disabled or deceased worker under Social Security Retirement (SSR), Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Survivor's Benefits.
If a child is disabled, he or she may qualify on his or her own. To learn more, see: Children With Disabilities: Social Security Benefits
There are maximum amounts that are payable to a family.
There is a one time death benefit if there is no widow or widower.
